Boston Celtics star Jayson Tatum took the time to say sorry to Janet Jackson after the team’s Game 6 with the Atlanta Hawks forced her concert at State Farm Arena to be moved.
The Hawks sent the NBA first-round playoff series to a sixth game after winning on Tuesday night.
The sixth matchup had to be played on Thursday night – the same time and venue as Jackson’s intended concert.
Tatum and Co. clinched their Eastern Conference semifinal spot and showdown with the Philadelphia 76ers with a 128-120 victory in Atlanta on Thursday.
‘I want to say an apology to the legend Janet Jackson,’ Tatum told TNT postgame.

Jackson was scheduled to perform on Thursday, but had to move as the Celtics and Hawks played in the NBA Playoffs – forcing her crew to tear down the stage and rebuild it on Friday
The Celtics defeated the Hawks, eliminating Atlanta from the playoffs as Boston moved on
‘We were supposed to close out in Boston and she had to postpone her show. I hope she sees this. I apologize for that.’
Jackson was playing multiple shows at the arena and had already played once on Wednesday. That meant her crew had to set up the stage, tear it all down again, and then re-assemble it before a show on Friday night before it all had to get packed away on Saturday.
The tickets for Thursday’s show were refundable and transferable to allow for fans who weren’t able to attend on Friday to adjust their schedules.
Jackson’s show on Friday unfortunately coincides with a show that Taylor Swift is playing at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium – less than 1,000 feet from State Farm Arena in downtown Atlanta.
The Celtics are now off to the second round of the playoffs where they will face off against the Philadelphia 76ers – who swept the Brooklyn Nets.
