Tom Brady’s second season in the broadcast booth will kick off in the nation’s capital. Fox’s lead NFL broadcast team—featuring Brady, Kevin Burkhardt, Erin Andrews, and Tom Rinaldi—is set to call the New York Giants at Washington Commanders game on September 7, the first Sunday of the regular season.
The following week, the crew will travel to Kansas City for a marquee early-season matchup: a rematch of Super Bowl LVII between the Philadelphia Eagles and the Chiefs. The team is also expected to be in Chicago for the Week 3 game between the Dallas Cowboys and the Bears, according to a source with knowledge of Fox Sports’ NFL plans who was not authorized to speak publicly.
This season’s schedule reflects a strategic shift for Fox, which requested more variety in its highly-rated 4:25 p.m. ET Sunday window. The network has historically relied heavily on the Cowboys for this time slot, which is typically the most-watched on television.
“I think CBS has actually had good success having their first doubleheader be in Week 2 the last couple of years, so we asked to move off Week 1 as the doubleheader,” Mike Mulvihill, Fox Sports’ head of insights and analytics, told The Athletic earlier this year. “It’s fine for a single-header, and we’re coming back with our first really special game of the year (Philadelphia at Kansas City).”
The network anticipates that the Week 2 Eagles-Chiefs game will deliver a significant viewership number. As a rematch of a recent, highly-watched Super Bowl, the contest is poised to attract a large national audience and provide a strong start to Fox’s premier game schedule.
