The Secretary-General of the Islamic Jihad Movement, Ziyad al-Nakhalah, said that the Palestinian factions have enough Israeli prisoners to carry out an exchange that guarantees the release of Palestinian detainees in Israeli prisons.
This came in a recorded speech by Al-Nakhal, on the occasion of the one-year anniversary of the genocidal war waged by Israel on the Gaza Strip.
Israel estimates that there are 101 prisoners in Gaza out of at least 239 Israelis who were captured on October 7, 2023. It exchanged dozens of them during a temporary truce last November, and Hamas announced the killing of dozens of others in random Israeli raids.
Regarding the ceasefire negotiations with Israel and the exchange of prisoners, Al-Nakhalah said, from the first day of the battle, our decision was to unite the resistance forces, and we authorized the Hamas movement to lead the political battle.
He added that Israel is evasive, evading its obligations, and wants to impose conditions closer to surrender.
Al-Nakhalah stressed the resistance’s adherence to the occupation’s complete withdrawal from the Gaza Strip, reconstruction, and the exchange of prisoners to ensure the liberation of Palestinian prisoners from the occupation’s prisons.
Al-Nakhal stressed that the unity of the resistance forces in the region is necessary for victory, and the unity of the Palestinian people is one of the most important duties in confronting the enemy, noting that the fighters of the Jihad movement on the Lebanese front fought shoulder to shoulder with Hezbollah fighters.
Although mediation efforts have continued for months, and one agreement proposal after another has been presented to end the aggression against Gaza and exchange prisoners, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu continues to set new conditions, while Defense Minister Yoav Gallant and Mossad Chief David Barnea have previously warned that this The conditions will hinder reaching a prisoner exchange deal.
These conditions include continuing control over the Philadelphia border axis between Gaza and Egypt, and the Rafah crossing in Gaza, and preventing the return of Palestinian faction fighters to northern Gaza, while Hamas insists on a complete withdrawal of Israel from the Gaza Strip and a complete cessation of aggression in order to accept any agreement.
