British Foreign Secretary Dominic Raab has warned of the decline of democracy around the world, in a speech in which he will highlight the danger of authoritarian regimes to global stability and prosperity.
Speaking to the US “Aspen Security Forum” to present this new agenda outside the domestic audience, Raab will sum up the foreign policy review as “a force for good in the world,” saying that global democratic institutions are under their greatest threat since the end of the Cold War.
According to “Reuters” agency, Raab will say that “democracy is in decline”, and that the data showed that in this decade it is expected that the combined economic output of authoritarian regimes will exceed the common output of the democracies of the world.
It will also indicate the need to create a leadership role in protecting democracies and building a new international order based on democratic values, because “without power and without economic, military, diplomatic and cultural influence, we cannot do anything”.
Since its 2016 vote to leave the European Union, Britain has been looking for a new role on the world stage that fulfills the promise made by Brexit activists to project British influence in the world.
