The British Financial Times reported that the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has asked Gulf countries to help it boost its stockpile of anti-missiles used in the Patriot system, with the escalation of attacks launched by the Houthi group with missiles and drones.
The newspaper quoted a senior US official as saying that the Biden administration had expressed its support for Saudi moves to obtain missiles from the Gulf countries, given the fears that its stock of Patriot missiles would run out within months due to the pace of attacks launched by the Houthis against it.
The newspaper pointed out that the approval of the United States must be obtained for the transfer of these anti-missiles.
The US official described the situation as urgent, noting that there are Gulf countries from which Saudi Arabia can obtain missiles to enhance its arsenal.
He added that work is underway to achieve this because this process is the fastest possible alternative to arms deals from the United States.
