British authorities have arrested a consultant in British Labour Party After speaking at anti-racism protests in which he said far-right rioters should have their throats “slit”.
A video has been circulating showing Labour councillor Ricky Jones telling anti-racism protesters in Walthamstow, north-east London, that far-right rioters are “disgusting” and “we need to slit their throats all”.
London's Metropolitan Police arrested Jones on suspicion of incitement to murder, and posted a tweet on Thursday confirming his arrest, along with a video clip of Jones addressing protesters.
Scotland Yard said Jones was being held at a police station in south London.
The British Labour Party suspended Jones (57 years old) from membership due to these statements, and said that his behaviour was unacceptable.
“This behaviour is completely unacceptable and will not be tolerated, and the Chancellor has been suspended from the party,” a Labour spokesman said.
This comes at a time when Britain is witnessing a rising wave of violence led by the far right against Muslims and immigrants, which erupted last week after the stabbing of three girls and the spread of misleading information about the attacker.
Thousands of anti-racism protesters took part in demonstrations in several British cities, denouncing demonstrations organised by the far right in recent days, which included violence.
