The ad tells the story of a young black woman who is dissatisfied with her hair and receives a gift of hair products specially designed for her, and at the end of the ad looks feeling her best and ready for the birthday party.
Rachel Toomasey-Corsson, CEO ofAfrocenchix “Feeling insecure before a big event sounds awful,..this time the solution comes from a brand that understands the unique needs of people with afro and curly hair.”
In recent years, major commercials have diversified as they become more interested in black, Asian and ethnic families. This is a step forward in terms of inclusion and representation of the UK’s architecture more accurately, but the downside is the backlash that comes with these ads.
And every year, people are outraged by the appearance of a non-white family in a festive ad, with accusations of imposing diversity. Metro“Diversity enriches British culture, but some people worry that it is somehow moving away from the white majority.”
“This kind of unjustified fear leads to a massive amount of racism and trolling,” she said.
Some people fear that ads featuring families of black or mixed heritage are imposing diversity on British society.
