The Denver Broncos will host the Arizona Cardinals this Saturday for their only home preseason game, aiming to build on a strong performance against the San Francisco 49ers last week.
While the team’s starters are not expected to play, Head Coach Sean Payton is focused on using the game as a crucial evaluation tool. Payton emphasized the need to correct errors from the previous outing and gather more data to inform final roster decisions. “Number 1, [it’s about] cleaning up and progress from mistakes that we’ve seen already,” Payton said. “Are those getting cleaned up or is it Groundhog Day for some players? If that’s the case, then we have a problem.”
The Broncos’ depth was on display last week, particularly on defense, which forced four turnovers—including three interceptions—and held the 49ers scoreless after their opening drive. On offense, quarterback Jarrett Stidham had a near-perfect showing, completing 14 of 15 passes for two touchdowns. Stidham and Sam Ehlinger will look to continue that offensive success at Empower Field at Mile High.
