Hope is about to run out in Brooklyn – if it hasn’t already. Over the past few weeks we have listened to Sean Marks (general manager) to say that he hoped that the entire squad could carry out the training camp, to Joe Tsai (owner) to point out that he expected to see Kyrie Irving playing all the games, and finally to Kevin Durant to review that he hopes they can solve this (the Irving thing) . Everyone can take it easy. For more messages that have been sent and even knowing that his pocket will be touched, the Nets base continues determined not to be vaccinated and in the team – by voice of Steve Nash – resignation is already glimpsed before such a scenario.
“I think we recognize that he will not be playing at home. We are sure to have to play without him this year. So now it’s about when, where and how much, ”says the head coach from New Yorkers to the media.
This change in the team’s perspective comes with just over a week left until the season begins. Until now they believed that it would be solved, and have even stressed that they have provided Irving with information about vaccines with the idea that it would change his decision. Nothing has worked. With the regulations that govern the city of New York, if the point guard does not get vaccinated will not be able to play at the Barclays Center. Brooklyn assumes that the campaign will begin like this and that it can, if nothing changes, that such context will remain until the end.
Nothing is clear. The team knows they can count on him on the road, but they are still studying how to handle such a situation. Kevin Durant has expressed doubts that a player is constantly in and out of the starting lineup. Nash does not give clues about it either.
“It looks like we can have Kyrie on tour with us, but I’m not sure if he plays since we haven’t seen him in a week. Obviously, safety comes first. We will make sure you are not at great risk of injury. But there is a lot to work on. I mean, we are getting information at the same time as you, so I’ll see what we do, “he says about making him play after a series of home games in which he can not participate.
The first example of this problem we have in the game this next morning. The Nets go to Philadelphia to face the 76ers. Irving can play there, but he will not travel with the team… The situation continues to complicate.
