A 30-acre brush fire, named the Canyon Fire, prompted evacuation orders and warnings in Ventura and Los Angeles counties after breaking out near Piru on Thursday afternoon.
The blaze was first reported around 1:30 p.m. near the 6700 block of Holser Canyon Road. In response, authorities issued mandatory evacuations for the Holser Canyon area, located east of Lake Piru and west of Val Verde.
Los Angeles County emergency officials also issued evacuation warnings for several neighborhoods in Castaic and Val Verde, including CAS-VALVERDE, CAS–OAKCANYON, CAS-ROMERO, and CAS-HASLEY.
According to the National Weather Service, firefighters are battling challenging conditions, with temperatures ranging from 95 to 100 degrees, humidity between 15-20%, and winds gusting up to 25 mph.
