Milwaukee Bucks star Giannis Antetokounmpo delivered a dominant 37-point, 10-rebound performance to lead Greece past Israel in the FIBA EuroBasket tournament. Shooting an efficient 18-of-23 from the field, Antetokounmpo propelled his team into the quarterfinals.
The victory improves Greece’s record to 4-1 in Group C, tying them with Italy for first place. The national team is now seeking its first EuroBasket championship since 2005, having also won the title in 1987.
Antetokounmpo’s play has silenced critics who questioned how his NBA style would adapt to FIBA’s distinct rules and court dimensions. Teammate Tyler Dorsey summed up playing alongside the superstar in one word: “Dominant.” This latest outing marks Antetokounmpo’s 10th consecutive EuroBasket game scoring 25 or more points.
The tournament is a family affair, with brothers Kostas and Thanasis Antetokounmpo also on the Greek roster. In the win over Israel, Kostas contributed four points and five rebounds, while Thanasis played for six minutes.
EuroBasket, which began on August 27 with 24 nations, will conclude with the championship game on September 14. The tournament features numerous NBA stars, with Luka Dončić leading all players in scoring at 34 points per game, just ahead of Antetokounmpo’s average of 30. Greece is set to face Lithuania next in Riga, Latvia.
