Buenrostro reiterates to Tai Mexico’s willingness to address energy concerns

Mexico plans to deliver next January the advances on the energy dispute that it maintains with the United States and Canada, reported Thursday the Ministry of Economy.

The projection was announced in a press release issued after the meeting of the Secretary of the Economy, Raquel Buenrostro, with the United States Trade Representative, Katherine Tai, in Washington.

The progress will be announced in the next North American Leaders Summit to be held in Mexico on January 9 and 10, 2023.

At the meeting, Buenrostro said that Mexico has the will to build tangible and mutually satisfactory solutions on all issues, particularly with regard to consultations on energy matters.

The team from the Ministry of Economy extended an invitation to the team from the Office of the United States Trade Representative (USTRfor its acronym in English) for the third round of energy consultations to take place in the coming days in Mexico City.

At the same time, Mexico and the United States agreed on the importance of the multidisciplinary dialogue that will take place in the coming days with the United States Secretary of Agriculture on biotechnology.

“At the meeting, the Secretary of Economy stated that in this new stage they are working closely with the national energy sector, led by Secretary Rocío Nahle, who has played a leading role in building precise, forceful and mutually satisfactory solutions that at the same time, they safeguard national sovereignty,” said the Ministry of Economy in the statement.

He also reported that they are in close collaboration with the Secretary of Energy and other industry authorities to fully address the concerns raised by the United States and Canada.

With this, Mexico would be in a position to receive officials from the USTR and Global Affairs in the coming days.

In the same way, Buenrostro raised the proposal to establish trinational working groups, which would meet during December and early January to deal with the different aspects of energy consultations.

Buenrostro updated Tai on the meeting of the Secretary of Agriculture of the United States with President Andrés Manuel López Obrador on biotechnology, informing that in the next few days there will be a mission from Mexico made up of the secretariats of Agriculture, Economy, Environment, together with with Cofepris, with the Secretary of Agriculture of the United States.

Buenrostro was accompanied by the Undersecretary of Foreign Trade, Alejandro Encinas Nájera, as well as other members of the agency’s team.
