Turkish actor Burak Ozcivit affirmed his stance in support of the Palestinian cause while receiving the Icon Award “Man of the Year” for the year 2023 at the “GQ” magazine awards ceremony in its Turkish version.
Ozcivit said, “In my name, and as a father of two children, I personally do not accept in any way a world in which children are killed, so I hope that we will meet in another world in which children are not killed.”
Turkish media welcomed Ozcivit’s words in support of Gaza against the Israeli aggression since the outbreak of the “Al-Aqsa Flood” on October 7, 2023.
Regarding the award, Ozcivit said that he does not like receiving individual awards, but rather prefers group awards, because the effort in any work is the result of the effort of an entire team, and therefore he receives the award in the name of the “Founder Othman” series team.
The “Men of the Year” ceremony witnessed the presence of a large number of Turkish artists, including actor Selahattin Başali, who won the Best Actor Award in 2023, while the Best Rising Actress Award went to Shifa Nur Gul, and Best Rising Actor Ligit Koçak.
Support Gaza
The Turkish actor announced his position in support of the Palestinian people on several occasions, the most prominent of which was his interaction with the events in Gaza through posts via the comics feature on his official account on the Instagram platform.
Ozcivit shed light on the massacre of the Israeli occupation by bombing the Baptist Hospital in Gaza, as he published a picture of the huge fire that the hospital suffered, commenting, “There is no explanation for the bombing of the hospital. How could this happen? The heart cannot bear these pictures.”
He also republished what his wife, actress Fakhriya Efgan, wrote via the comics feature on her official Instagram account, “Free Palestine.”
Ozcivit joined a group of Turkish actors supporting the Palestinian cause in 2021, and wrote on Instagram, “No one has the right to harm innocent people, especially children. Let Palestine breathe again.”
