The European Union’s statistics office, Eurostat, said on Monday that the unemployment rate in the euro zone stabilized at 8.3 percent of the workforce in December.
This comes despite the continuation of general isolation measures aimed at curbing the spread of the Corona virus in most countries of the euro area.
The office added that the number of unemployed in the eurozone countries reached 13 million and 761 thousand last December, up from 13 million and 616 thousand last November.
In Belgium, Ireland, Cyprus, Lithuania, the Netherlands, Portugal and Slovakia, the number of unemployed actually decreased in December, but it rose slightly in other countries such as Germany, France and Italy.
