Zooming in from the TAB! Matt Damon proves he’s an everyday Aussie bloke as he’s interviewed on American TV in front of the gambling machines at a Byron Bay pub
Matt Damon has been living Down Under with his family since January, and it seems the Hollywood actor is now a bona fide Aussie bloke.
The 50-year-old, who is in Australia filming Thor: Love and Thunder, chose the gaming area of a Byron Bay pub as the location for a U.S. TV interview on Tuesday.
He Zoomed into NBC’s Today Show while sitting in front of a wall of TAB machines – which wouldn’t have been familiar to American viewers but would be immediately recognisable to Aussies.

Matt revealed the pub owner had allowed him to stay past closing time so he could chat to Today hosts Savannah Guthrie and Hoda Kotb without other patrons milling about.
During the interview, he was also asked about his longtime friend Ben Affleck’s romantic reunion with his ex-fiancée Jennifer Lopez – but didn’t give much away.
‘I’m in Australia, I’m having a beer. The people at the local club were nice enough to leave it open just so that I could do this [interview],’ he said.
‘They’ve got the best internet connection in this neighbourhood where I am.’

He was asked about Ben J.Lo’s reunion, after they were spotted this week heading off on a private jet for a romantic getaway to Montana, fuelling reconciliation rumours.
‘You’re friend Ben Affleck, and a little thing we call Bennifer,’ Savannah said. ‘How do you like them apples?’
Matt looked a little uncomfortable and tried to dodge the question.

The movie star burst into laughter and said: ‘There’s not enough liquor in the world for you to get me to say something about that!’
Hoda pressed him: ‘Did the news make it to Australia? How did you even know that Bennifer was a thing again, possibly.’
‘I just heard you guys waiting to come on TV. It’s the first time I heard about it,’ he said, looking away from the hosts.
‘And what did you think?’ Savannah asked.
‘It’s a fascinating story,’ he said as the co-anchors laughed. ‘I love them both. I hope it’s true. That would be awesome.’
