The number 1 of the 2021 Draft, Cade Cunningham, took the duel of brand-new rookies in last night’s meeting between the Detroit Pistons and the Houston Rockets. Those of the Motor Town they won 112-104 in their first meeting.
Cunningham had 20 points, 4 rebounds, 3 assists and 2 steals with 8/18 shooting from the field. For his part, the one who was number 2 of his promotion, Jalen Green, had 23 points and 5 rebounds, although somewhat more irregular in the launch with an 8/20.
Both are called to lead their respective franchises in the future. Cunningham has come to the league after a single NCAA stint; and Green skipped college to enlist in the ranks of the Ignites of the G League.
“He has this competitive gene that allows him to perform under pressure,” said Dwane Casey of his mentee.
Grant cap at 35
Another of the great stars of the night was Jerami Grant, with his top scorer of the course with 35 goals. The power forward was 13-of-23 on shooting from the field, including a 4-of-9 on 3-pointers in 35 minutes.
“It got us going,” Casey acknowledged. “His ability to get to the paint, to attack the basket, and then with his outside shot was a great help for us. And not only did he do that, but he also got some rebounds and kept us going, “he explained.
With his contribution, the Pistons end a four-game losing streak and move to 2-8. For their part, the Rockets are still without lifting their heads with 9 consecutive losses and a 1-10 record, being the last in the West.
Other standouts were Kelly Olynyk with 13 points and 6 rebounds starting as reserve; and in the Texans Christian Wood with 20 points; Kevin Porter Jr. added 18; and Jaesean Tate closed with 14 points.
