The Council on American-Islamic Relations calledCare) Democrats To draw lessons from the loss of their candidate Kamala Harris in US presidential electionsas the president-elect urged Donald Trump On stopping Genocide in Gaza.
The Council – the largest Islamic platform for civil action and defense of human rights in the country – praised the turnout of American Muslims “despite their deep frustration and disappointment with both major parties over the genocide in Gaza.”
The council’s national executive director, Nihad Awad, said – in a statement published on Wednesday following Trump’s victory in the presidential race – that “it is crucial for Democratic elected officials and others to realize that the sharp decline in support for Vice President Harris in key states compared to President Biden’s victory in 2020 stems in part from “The deep frustration and disappointment of many young voters, Muslims, Arabs, Blacks, and others toward the Biden-Harris administration because of its unwavering financial and military support for Israel’s ongoing annihilation in Gaza.”

Awad added, “The Vice President’s failure to develop any plan to end this genocide, such as suspending weapons to Israel, coupled with her refusal to allow any Palestinian-American to speak at the Democratic National Convention and her embrace of war crimes supporter Liz Cheney, made the situation worse.”
According to the statement, Harris’ failure to listen to this clear majority of Americans who support a ceasefire and suspension of arms supplies to Israel led to “an unprecedented shift among the Muslim, Arab and other communities, which traditionally vote for Democratic presidents.”
The CAIR director stressed that no politician or party has ownership of the Muslim vote, and added, “In the future, we expect all elected officials to respond to the pressing concerns of Muslim voters. This includes President-elect Trump.”
The Council urged the Republican candidate returning to the White House, after his first presidency (2016-2020), to realize that most Americans – including the Muslim Americans who supported him – do not want to see more fanaticism at home in America nor more wars abroad.
The statement called on Trump to fulfill his election promises to seek peace abroad and end the war on Gaza, provided that this is through a real peace based on justice, freedom, and the establishment of a state for the Palestinian people.
