California Governor Gavin Newsom declared a state of emergency on Monday due to the oil spill. The leak in a pipeline released more than 380,000 liters of crude into the Pacific Ocean. Now teams are working to protect the fragile ecosystem near the mouth of the Santa Ana River. According to Orange County Supervisor Katrina Foley, dead birds and fish are already making their way to shore.
