The 2024 post-apocalyptic film Elevation, starring Anthony Mackie, is finding new life on Amazon Prime Video, climbing into the platform’s top 10 global streaming chart. This popularity with home audiences marks a significant turnaround for the sci-fi action movie, which underperformed at the box office.
According to streaming data, Elevation currently holds the number three spot worldwide on Prime Video. This success comes after the film grossed less than $4 million in theaters against an estimated $18 million budget. Its critical reception was also lukewarm, reflected in a 55% score on Rotten Tomatoes, though it has resonated more strongly with viewers, who gave it an 80% audience score.
Set in a world decimated by subterranean predators, the film follows the last remnants of humanity who survive in safe havens at altitudes above 8,000 feet, where the creatures cannot reach. Mackie plays Will, a single father forced to risk a perilous descent with a scientist, Nina (Morena Baccarin), to find medicine for his ailing son.
The film adds another action credit for Mackie, best known for his role as Sam Wilson in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. After assuming the title of Captain America, he will headline the upcoming Captain America: Brave New World and is set to return in Avengers: Doomsday (2026) and Avengers: Secret Wars (2027).
Elevation was directed by George Nolfi from a script by John Glenn, Jacob Roman, and Kenny Ryan. Mackie also served as a producer alongside Nolfi, Glenn, and others. The film is now available for streaming on Amazon Prime Video.
