Car sales in Argentina grew 6.8% in 2022

The Argentine automotive industry closed 2022 with 407,523 cars sold, a growth of 6.8% against the volume of 2021, reported the Association of Automotive Dealers of the Argentine Republic (Acara). The entity reported it after disseminating the data for December, the month in which 19,635 units were patented, 10.9% more than a year earlier.

“The almost 19,7000 vehicles in December mean that we end the year with a more than positive feeling, with good year-on-year growth and exceeding 407,000 registrations, something that at some point we saw as very difficult to achieve,” said Ricardo Salomé, president from Acara.

The outstanding data of the year is that six out of 10 cars sold are of national origin, an old desire of the sector that meets very diverse objectives, since it affects the entire sector and other related activities,” he added.

The reference is to the participation reached by domestically produced vehicles, largely achieved thanks to the restriction that exists on the supply of imported cars. In fact, the smallest cars, in the most economical segments, are manufactured in Brazil.

According to Acara data, in 2022, 58% of patented cars were domestically produced and 34% came from Brazil. In 2021, the Argentines had been 50% and the Brazilians, 41 percent. “As we have been warning since January, if they had had more vehicles, the figures would have been considerably higher.”
