Former two-weight world champion Carl Frampton is standing by a prediction he made two years ago, confidently backing Terence Crawford to defeat Saul “Canelo” Alvarez should the boxing mega-fight materialize.
Frampton recalled facing skepticism for his prediction, which he first made following Crawford’s dominant victory over Errol Spence Jr. in 2023. “I think Crawford wins,” Frampton stated in a recent interview. “I said it when he beat Errol Spence, and everybody laughed at me… I genuinely believe Crawford wins.”
At the time, Alvarez was coming off a commanding win over Jermell Charlo. However, Frampton cautioned that a Crawford victory might not be thrilling for spectators. “It might not be the best fight in the world to watch,” he admitted. “For Crawford to win, it will have to be a boring fight.” The Irish fighter attributed this to a perceived change in Alvarez’s style, noting, “I think Canelo’s fights are now slower than they used to be.”
While the main event promises a legacy-defining clash, the promotion itself is set to be an unprecedented spectacle. Turki Alalshikh, chairman of Saudi Arabia’s General Entertainment Authority, has revealed ambitious plans for a multi-day event featuring a massive undercard.
“The undercard will be between two or three days,” Alalshikh said. “We now have more than 20 fights to do. Ninety-five percent of this card is talent, and people around the world have a very big chance to be a star in the future.”
He has already floated a heavyweight clash between Jarrell Miller and Jared Anderson for the card. Other potential featured fighters include rising star Hamzah Sheeraz and pound-for-pound talent Junto Nakatani, setting the stage for one of the most significant events in modern boxing history.
