Australian actress Cate Blanchett says she got “free sandwiches” but was not paid well for her role as Galadriel in The Lord of the Rings.
Blanchett's response came when she was asked about the film for which she received the highest salary, during her participation in an American talk show.
When the host guessed that the film was “The Lord of the Rings,” Blanchett said in surprise, “Are you kidding me? No, no one got paid for this film.”
Asked if she got a “percentage of the film's profits”, the 55-year-old said: “No! That was a long time ago, no I got nothing.”
“No, no one got paid,” she added. “Women don't get paid as much as you think.”
Blanchett has starred in a number of blockbuster films, including The Curious Case of Benjamin Button with Brad Pitt in 2008, Ocean's Eight with George Clooney in 2018, The Aviator with Leonardo DiCaprio in 2004, for which she won an Oscar for Best Supporting Actor, and Blue Jasmine in 2013, for which she won another Oscar for Best Actress.
