The addition of “mood disorders, including depression and schizophrenia spectrum disorders,” allows those diagnosed with mental health conditions to qualify for a booster vaccine for the coronavirus.
Lisa Dailey, executive director of the American Therapy Advocacy Center, told the newspaper The Post: “This is a population group that is really at risk because of the way the coronavirus interacts with the body.”
In April, a large-scale study found that more than a third of coronavirus survivors develop a neurological condition or mental illness in the six months following infection, with people with severe illness at higher risk of rare neurological complications.
Another analysis conducted this month found a “strong link” between mood disorders and the risk of corona infection and the rate of hospitalizations and death.
