Wearing face masks in open and closed public spaces is already a personal decision in Mexico City, as of October 14, 2022.
Through the Official Gazette, the new health guidelines related to the Covid-19 pandemic were published. The document notes that due to the downward trend in infections, the authorities have determined to relax the measures.
This implies that in offices, restaurants, supermarkets, commercial premises or department stores it will be optional to use the face mask. Just as it worked until now in open spaces.
Despite the fact that the obligation was withdrawn, the authorities of the Mexico City government reiterate as a recommendation to use face masks, particularly in these cases:
- In closed spaces when there is no healthy distance or adequate ventilation
- In places with a high influx of people, such as schools, public transport or hospitals
- For activities or public shows in enclosed spaces
- When it comes to the elderly, people with respiratory diseases, people with chronic pathology or immunosuppression
- When it comes to people suspected or confirmed of Covid-19
- When it comes to people who decided not to get vaccinated against Covid-19
