Celebrating Christmas will cost Monterrey residents between 5 and 14% more than in 2021: UANL

Monterrey, NL. For Monterrey residents, the Christmas dinner will have an average cost of between 1,113 pesos and 1,453 pesos, which represents a price increase of 14% and 5%, respectively, according to an analysis carried out by the Center for Economic Research and the Faculty of economy of Autonomous University of Nuevo Leon.

If the option of a menu with tamales, a bottle of wine, 6-liter soft drinks, two six of beer and a three milk cake is taken into account, the cost would be 1,113 pesos, which represents an increase of 14% with in relation to the prices of December 2021.

For the majority of the population, the Christmas dinner includes tamales, however the raw material, for example 500 grams of butter have an average cost of 44.20 pesos, increased 45% compared to December of last year; 2 bags of 200 grams of tamale leaves cost 46.60 pesos, that is, 17% more; 1 kilo of corn flour has a cost of 17.30 pesos, a 17% increase, this without including the cost of the meat or chicken that this dish has.

For those who want to save time, one hundred tamales cost 1,157.3 pesos, which represents an increase of 12% compared to December 2021.

Three other menus include: 3 kilos of leg, spaghetti, beer, wine and cake, with an approximate cost of 1,118.00 pesos, this is 9% more than in December of the previous year.

The third option is 3 kilos of turkey, its cost would be 1,265 pesos, which represents an increase of 10% and the most expensive option is to buy 3 kilos of sirloin for roast beef and other products, with a cost of 1,453 pesos, and an increase of 5 percent.
