A celebrity hair stylist who has worked with Madonna and styled Kate Moss’ hair for her iconic Calvin Klein campaign with Mark Wahlberg has shared the three things you need to do to improve your hair today. 

Max Pinnell, who works out of Sydney’s Double Bay, said there are a few things he religiously does on clients including Cindy Crawford and Ruby Rose.

And none of them cost the earth or are difficult to include in your own haircare regime.

Max counts both Madonna and Ruby Rose (both pictured with him) among occasional clients, and one of his top tips is to always do a cold rinse after a shower

‘I truly believe that a cold water rinse after you have a shower does wonders for your hair if you can stand being in the cold water,’ Max told FEMAIL.

‘It really crisps it up and brings the shine out.’

For those wanting to try a cold rinse, the hairdresser recommends just 15-20 seconds of cold water after you’ve washed your hair.

The reason why this works is because the cold water locks in the moisture, while also tightening your hair follicles, which means reduced hair loss.

Max recommends washing your hair as infrequently as possible, as this makes sure it’s shiny, not dry (the range pictured)

* When it comes to what to use, he is a fan of a clarifying shampoo every 2-3 weeks, and otherwise a moisturising product.

* According to Max, there is one product that can help your hair to last a little bit longer. This product is Wet Dry Shampoo ($29.95). ‘Wet dry shampoo will give you an extra day out of your hair at least. It’s also a great product to use on fine hair, as it adds volume,’ Max said.

* Otherwise, the hairdresser said you have to use a conditioner, as well as a serum on your ends. He likes the Shine Deluxe Serum, which he describes as perfect for dry, damaged and frizzy hair.

Max’s second tip for glossy hair is that you should always use a scrunchie instead of a hair tie.

‘They might be more ugly, but they are so much kinder to your hair,’ he said.

Similarly, if you’re out and about and want to keep a blow dry looking nice, rather than tying it up, he said you should just twist your hair and wrap it into a bun that is fastened with a clip instead of a hairband.

‘This stops your blow dry from being dented and means your hair still has great body by the time you get to your event,’ Max said.

Finally, Max said rather than using damaging curling wands, he is a big fan of more old school methods like rollers and/or rags.

‘If you sleep with your hair wrapped in rags like they did a decade ago, your hair will have a beautiful twirl or curl in it when you wake up and you’ll look different to everyone else,’ Max said.
