The government of the Central African Republic has accused former President Francois Bozize of plotting a coup as political tension and violence escalate ahead of the country’s general elections scheduled for next week.
In a statement, the government said, “Bozize plotted with members of his family and a number of armed groups to attack two towns near the capital, Bangui, after the country’s Supreme Court rejected his candidacy for the elections.”
She added, “Bozize mobilized men on the outskirts of the town of Bossembele and plans to march to the capital.”
For his part, government spokesman Angie Maxime Kazaghi said it was “an obvious coup attempt.”
The elections are scheduled to take place on the 27th of December
