Challenges before INAI register a 48% rise

The number of appeals or means of challenge against public institutions due to disagreement of people in response to their requests for information grew 48% in 2022.

According to the National Institute for Transparency, Access to Information and Protection of Personal Data (Inai) from January 1 to November 30 of last year, 24,740 appeals were filed with the agency.

While for the same period, but in 2021, a total of 16.67 means of challenge were registered, which include appeals for review, attraction and disagreement.

The Inai explained that of the appeals filed last year, 22,189 correspond to the matter of access to information, while 2,551 are related to the protection of personal data.

Regarding the regulated entities with the greatest number of resources, the Federal Commission for the Protection against Sanitary Risks (Cofepris) ranks first with 5,329; It is followed by the Mexican Social Security Institute (IMSS), with 1,656; Telecommunications of Mexico (Telecom), ranks third with 1,407.

In fourth place is the Ministry of Health, with 717; the Institute of Transparency, Access to Information and Protection of Personal Data of the State of Tamaulipas (ITAIT), with 607 is in fifth position.

Also on the list are the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources (SEMARNAT), with 553; the Ministry of Public Education (SEP), with 537; the Tax Administration Service (SAT), with 493; the Institute of Security and Social Services for State Workers (ISSSTE), with 444, and the Office of the Attorney General of the Republic (FGR), with 422.

The Inai also indicated that, if the records of 2022 are compared with the previous one, it was highlighted that the number of appeals against ITAIT increased by 15.075%, going from 4 to 607. In the case of Cofepris, 499% since it registered 889 in 2021 and for this it was 5,329.
