Changes and Top list at the 2023 Mexican Tennis Open

Carlos Alcaraz will be the tennis player who will give the Mexican Tennis Open a different touch, on a very special occasion: the 30th anniversary. The Spaniard who marked ATP history by sitting at number 1 in the ranking at the age of 19 will be the best-seeded player in the competition, heading a lineup that includes the Top 20 in the world: Stefanos Tsitsipas (3 ), Casper Ruud (4), Taylor Fritz (8), Holger Rune (9), Cameron Norrie (11), Frances Tiafoe (15) and Paul Tommy (19).

The Greek Tsitsipas recent finalist in the Australian Open will play in Mexico for the third time. Last year he was crowned in doubles. Ruud comes from a season in which he added three titles on clay and in which he was a finalist at Roland Garros and the US Open. The only confirmed Mexican (so far) is Rodrigo Pacheco who entered via wild card.

In Mexico City, the list of players was presented by the new tournament director Álvaro Falla, who has worked with Mextenis for two decades. Last December, Raúl Zurutuza left office. Geoffrey Fernández, director of the Los Cabos Open and President of operations of the Mexican Open, also spoke at the conference.

“We have a spectacular litter of tennis players from the new generation. There are going to be intense matches. It is a team with which we are happy and satisfied to be able to celebrate these 30 years, which is easy to say, but it has been a path of great effort on the part of a great team. We had announced three Top 10 players and in the end, at the start of 2023, Fritz and Rune have been added and with them there will be five Top 10 players,” Falla said.

Regarding news, the tournament will reactivate Tennis Talks, a forum for conversations with public access. This year includes the Italian Matteo Berrettini, the father of Stefanos Tsitsipas, Feliciano López and Frances Tiafoe. In addition, in the commercial part, the NFT’s of the tournament will be launched in order to reach new audiences.
