Production has commenced in Los Angeles for the fourth season of Ryan Murphy and Ian Brennan’s Emmy-winning Netflix anthology series, Monster.
This installment will dramatize the story of Lizzie Borden, the series’ first female subject, with Ella Beatty (Feud: Capote vs. The Swans) cast in the title role. Netflix confirmed the start of filming with the release of a promotional photo featuring Beatty alongside co-star Charlie Hunnam.
Hunnam, who is also slated to portray serial killer Ed Gein in a future season of the anthology, will star as Andrew Borden. The cast also includes Vicky Krieps (Phantom Thread) as Bridget Sullivan, Rebecca Hall (Christine) as Abby Borden, Billie Lourd (American Horror Story) as Emma Borden, and Jessica Barden (*The End of the F**ing World) as Nance O’Neill. Max Winkler (Flower) is set to direct the first episode.
The Monster franchise has been a major success for Netflix. The first season, Dahmer – Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story, premiered in 2022, earning 13 Emmy nominations and becoming one of the platform’s most-watched series of all time. The second installment, Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story, was released in September 2024 and also achieved significant viewership, debuting in the Netflix Top 10 with 12.2 million views globally in its first three days.
