ChatGPT represents a new era of internet

There is a revolution underway on the screens. This is ChatGPT, an artificial intelligence chatbot specialized in interactions with humans, just launched in November 2022 and which projects revenues of 200 million dollars this year and increase it to 1,000 million dollars next year. Experts describe it as the replacement for Google, the new digital age, since it not only offers answers, but also solves and ‘does’ things, learning through interactions and serving as the basis for other developments.

Its success is such that the tool has collapsed this week due to excess users.

With just three months in the making, its applicability is being explored in areas such as economic forecasting, political opinion, writing, and even art. With its emergence, open source alternatives have emerged in parallel that allow developers to experiment in other fields.

ChatGPT is a technology designed to carry out intellectual work, which puts an old science fiction prophecy on the near horizon: the replacement of jobs such as writing, content creation and customer service. It is a conversational chat that, through Artificial Intelligence (AI), allows users to request tasks related to language. ChatGPT can be asked anything and it will answer, from what does something mean, to what it thinks about the political situation; and may be asked to do tasks such as writing a poem or solving problems. And behind it could not be anyone other than the second largest tycoon in the contemporary world (until recently the first), creator of some of the companies with the most disruptive premises, such as Tesla (autonomous electric cars), SpaceX (which seeks to send humans to Mars ) and Neuralink (brain chip project).

Elon Musk, owner of Twitter, was one of the founders and today advises the research company OpenAI, which would translate InteligenciaArtificialAbierta and is the creator of ChatGPT. The company was born in 2015 in San Francisco, and adds among its founders Sam Altman, an entrepreneur, programmer and former president of Y Combinator, who now serves as its CEO; Greg Brockman, former CTO of startup Stripe; Ilya Sutskever, Computer Scientist and OpenAI Chief Scientist; and Wojciech Zaremba, another scientist who leads the chat language and research teams.

Today the tool is free, but, for a fundamental reason: ChatGPT is really collecting all the data it can from users, that is, feeding on information to become smarter and gain greater value, experts such as Adalberto José Garcia explain. , consultant of the Control Risks compliance team, and Alain Bismark Almeida, partner-advisor of Information Technology at Kpmg.

For this reason, companies like Microsoft are already negotiating it. Last week it was leaked that its creator Bill Gates is seeking to implement this tool in Bing, to compete with Google, today the lord of searches. Microsoft will seek to buy 49% of the Artificial Intelligence company ChatGPT, for 10,000 million dollars.

The tool adds more than a million users in three months globally. How do the experts explain it? “It is a virtual chat assistant (or “chatbot”) with Artificial Intelligence that maintains fluid conversations and provides complex and detailed responses to user requests,” says García.

Although it is free, to use it the person must create a user to enter. Once there, a chat window is reflected along with examples of types of questions, the capabilities of the search engine and its limitations. This last point is key since it indicates that ChatGPT “may occasionally generate incorrect, biased or harmful information”. For now, it only handles issues or events until before 2021.

“The real revolution will be in ChatGPT 4 or 5, that is, the next versions that will have, as already said, 100 times more parameters than the current version; this really begins to put us at a clear disadvantage regarding the ability to store and correlate information as humans,” says Almeida. He points out that it will be key for the automation of data analysis, news summaries, product descriptions; Analyze problems and offer solutions.

Experts and creators have explained that GPT, which stands for Generative Pre-training Transformer, needed to “train” it. And how? Through huge amounts of text, which is defined as a model of “generative language.” Specialized websites such as Atria Innovation specify that the GPT-3 model was trained with more than 8 million documents and 10,000 million words, which serve as the basis for it to learn to perform language processing tasks. It adds 175 billion parameters. The training used “reinforcement learning” with human feedback, on a Microsoft Azure platform on a supercomputer.
