Chihuahua Prosecutor’s Office dismissed the director of Cereso 3 in Ciudad Juárez

The Chihuahua State Attorney General’s Office dismissed the director of the Social Reintegration Center (Cereso) 3 in Ciudad Juárez, Alejandro Alvarado Tellezwho is also under investigation for the riot registered on Sunday, and for which 30 inmates escaped and 17 people were deprived of their lives.

The Prosecutor’s Office said that operational, administrative and other areas of Cereso are also subject to investigation, in order to establish whether or not they are involved in the entry of prohibited objects, omissions as a prison authority and authorizing acts that are outlawed. . This was due to the fact that inside the prison, after the riot, drugs, weapons, privileged cells and money were found.

Due to the above, the Internal Inspection Directorate opened an investigation folder, in which ministerial and investigative work is carried out around the case.

Meanwhile, the same Prosecutor’s Office carried out the transfer of 191 highly dangerous prisoners, the majority of the “Los Mexicles” gang who were in Cereso 3, and who were handed over to elements of the National Guard for their transfer via air to federal prisons.

The operation was carried out in coordination with the Secretary of National Defense, the National Guard, the Secretary of Public Security of the State, the State Agency for Investigation and the Security Police and Penitentiary Custody.

According to the General Directorate of the Penitentiary System, Prevention and Social Reintegration, prisoners subject to transfer are criminally prosecuted for crimes of homicide, kidnapping, possession of a firearm, rape and organized crime.

“The State Attorney General’s Office carries out accurate actions that allow maintaining the governance of the prison located in Ciudad Juárez,” he said.

CNDH issues precautionary measures

When issuing precautionary measures, the National Human Rights Commission (CNDH) He called for dialogue, dissuasion and negotiation with the prison population in Cereso 3, in order to restore order. He asked the Chihuahua authorities to transfer the inmates to federal prisons

Likewise, it requested the implementation of an adequate mechanism to immediately inform the next of kin of persons deprived of their liberty and security and custody personnel about their state of health, in addition to providing them with medical care.

Regarding the intervention of the personnel of the National Defense Secretariat, of the Attorney General and State Policethe CNDH said that the actions aimed at restoring order in said penitentiary center must be carried out according to the gradual use of force.

The national organization said that it is necessary to guarantee the conditions of governance in said penitentiary center and to continue with the strict application of the protocols for the care and control of violent incidents.
