The Chinese army accused the United States of “creating tensions” and “destabilizing” in the region, due to the movement of American ships near the island of Taiwan, which Beijing considers part of its territory.
Commenting on the passage of the missile destroyer “John McCain” in the Taiwan Strait, the Eastern Province Command of the Chinese army said that the United States “creates tensions and destabilizes stability and peace in the region, and we strongly oppose this.”
She stressed that the Chinese forces “will fulfill their duty and firmly secure national sovereignty, security and territorial integrity.”
For its part, the Ministry of Defense in Taiwan said that the US ship was “carrying out a routine mission in accordance with international law” in the Taiwan Strait.
