On Wednesday, a Chinese court sentenced 10 Hong Kong activists who were arrested while trying to flee Hong Kong by boat to Taiwan, ranging from 7 months to 3 years in prison.
The court said that the two people who organized the border crossing (escape) were sentenced to three years imprisonment and the other two years, while the others were sentenced to 7 months.
The Chinese authorities’ arrest of 12 people from Hong Kong who tried to flee to Taiwan sparked Western criticism, and the US embassy in Beijing called on the Chinese authorities on Tuesday to release them.
