On Tuesday, the Chinese ambassador to the European Union expressed his country’s “grave” concern over the possibility of the bloc imposing human rights sanctions on Beijing.

“We are against interference in the internal affairs of others, and against sanctions and accusations that are not based on any basis,” Ambassador Zhang Ming said during a virtual seminar.
He added, “We want dialogue, not confrontation. We ask the European Union to think twice.”
The ambassador denied Western accusations that Beijing undermines the “one country, two systems” principle in Hong Kong.
On March 22, the European Union will punish four Chinese officials and one entity with a travel ban and an asset freeze due to human rights violations of the Muslim Uyghur minority in China, according to European diplomats.
