Beijing, Jan 12 (.).- The Chinese company Sinohydro Bureau will build a power plant in the Bolivian region of Santa Cruz (east) at a cost of 53.4 million yuan (7.3 million euros/ 8.4 million dollars), official media reported today.
The infrastructure, which will be fueled by gas, will be part of a steel plant designed to reach an annual production of 194,000 tons, according to the state agency Xinhua.
This industry is expected to save the Andean country about half of the foreign currency it now spends on imports from China, according to data released by the Department of Commerce of Qinghai (west), the province where the Asian firm is based.
This company, which has been operating in Bolivia since 2013, has already developed other road infrastructure and energy projects in that country, including a hydroelectric dam in the central region of Cochabamba.
The Bolivian State has awarded numerous projects to Chinese companies in recent years in areas such as highways, iron, potassium and steel plants, improvement of the citizen security system and telecommunications, among others.
