Shocking footage of Chinese children forced to wash their faces in a squat toilet has emerged, sparking outrage on social media.

The short clip, filmed at a sports training centre in north-eastern China’s Liaoning Province, shows a girl and a boy scooping water from a toilet bowl before rubbing it on their faces
The pupils’ coach was suspended from their position for subjecting the youngsters to the physical punishment in north-eastern China’s Liaoning Province, according to an official statement on Friday.
The nine-second video was uploaded onto Chinese social media platforms by an anonymous parent on Thursday before going viral.
It was allegedly filmed by a pupil who witnessed other children taking it in turns to receive the extreme penalty at a bathroom in the Jinzhou City Sports Training and Management Centre.
According to the whistle-blowing parent, the pupils in questions were attending a joint education programme between the centre and a local middle school.
The source told Cover News that the children’s martial arts coach ‘regularly’ used this method to penalise them for not cleaning bathrooms properly.
The video was filmed in 2017, and coach – who is known by their surname Dai and taught taekwondo – was suspended from their position in December, 2019, according to authorities
‘No matters they were boys or girls, they were told to queue up to wash their faces [in the toilet],’ the parent said. ‘[The coach] even threatened to make them drink toilet water should they make more mistakes.’
‘As a parent, how do you think it made us feel?’ the source slammed, adding that the coach had demanded the pupils do all cleaning and renovation works at the centre.
Local officials confirmed the authenticity of the footage on Friday.
The Jinzhou Culture, Tourism and Sports Service Centre said in a social media statement that it had set up a special team to investigate the allegations.
According to the probe, the video was filmed in 2017, and coach – who is known by their surname Dai and taught taekwondo – was suspended from their position in December, 2019.
The authority deemed that Dai’s behaviour had seriously violated the professional ethics of teachers and caused adverse social impacts.
It said it had issued Dai a warning and banned the individual from coaching.
