In written arguments, Mr Wightman and Mr Bean also mentioned: ‘The statements complained of are severe and would express a defamatory inclination had been they not factual and bloody well correct.’

In a preliminary ruling in March 2022, Mr Justice Johnson observed that the allegations had been defamatory and explained the adult males ‘do not shy away’ from their allegation that Mr Packham ‘misused his function as a BBC presenter to defraud the public into making charitable donations on the wrong pretext that tigers had been mistreated by a circus and rescued by a zoo’.

The hearing, which started at 10:30 this morning, is currently being held right before Mr Justice Saini.
