Authorities in Alabama are asking for the public’s help in locating Markia Woods, a Georgia woman who left her home earlier this week. Although Markia has been confirmed safe after contacting law enforcement, her exact location remains unknown, and efforts to locate her continue.
Clayton County Police received a missing person report on January 8 from a residence on the 900 block of Maple Leaf Ridge. Officers spoke with Markia’s mother, who reported that her daughter left home around 8 a.m., taking her belongings and leaving behind a note. In the note, Markia expressed love for her family and shared that she needed time for self-reflection and healing, assuring them she would return eventually.
Later that day, police were able to reach Markia, who confirmed she had traveled to Alabama via Greyhound bus and was safe, according to Fox 5 News. However, authorities are working to locate her in person to ensure her well-being.
Markia’s Description and Safety Concerns
Markia is described as being 5 feet 6 inches tall and weighing about 175 pounds. At the time of her departure, no witnesses or surveillance footage were available to provide details on her clothing.
Her family and police are especially concerned because Markia has been diagnosed with bipolar disorder and schizophrenia, conditions that require proper care and monitoring.
How Alabama Residents Can Help
The Clayton County Police Department is calling on Alabamians to be on the lookout for Markia. Anyone who sees her or has information about her whereabouts is urged to contact the Clayton County Police Department at 770-477-3747 or call 911 immediately.
Community support is crucial in reuniting Markia with her family and ensuring her safety.
