Cleveland Cavaliers ‘part ways with five-time All-Star Kevin Love after nine seasons after contract buyout’… as Miami Heat remain ‘front runners’ for the power forward
Kevin Love is set for a new NBA home after completing a contract buyout with the Cleveland Cavaliers, according to multiple reports.
Love has been linked to the Miami Heat, who are considered ‘front-runners’ by NBA insider Adrian Wojnarowski, though he will engage in talks with Philadelphia 76ers prior to making a final decision.Â
The five-time All-Star requested the buyout several days ago, having recently fallen out of coach J. B. Bickerstaff’s rotation for the fourth-place Cavaliers (38-23) — despite a dearth of post players on Cleveland’s bench.Â
Following news of the buyout, the 34-year-old tweeted: ‘I’ll have more to say soon but want to get this off my chest.
‘To the people of Cleveland and all of Ohio. I f***ing LOVE you…and always will. Thank you for everything. More to come.’
Kevin Love is reportedly out of the Cavaliers and set for either Miami or Philadelphia next
Love spent nine seasons with the Cleveland franchise and won a title with LeBron James (L)
Love had not played since a January 24 loss to the New York Knicks. For the year, Love, is averaging a career-low 8.5 points a game.Â
Despite his decreased playing time in 2022-23, Love remains a reliable perimeter shooter, making 35.4 percent from deep this season and 37.2 percent for his career.
He was acquired from Minnesota in an offseason trade in 2014 before helping the LeBron James-led Cavaliers win the first title in team history in 2016.
Love could now follow in James’ footsteps from Cleveland to Miami, where the Heat are in desperate need of bench scoring.Â
Coach Erik Spoelstra’s reserves are averaging just 26.9 points a game – the second fewest in the NBA this season.
Love is a former fifth-overall draft pick, initially taken by Minnesota after starring at UCLA in 2007 and 2008.Â
The five-time All-Star expressed his feelings toward the city of Cleveland following the news
