Celebrities have criticized Kim Kardashian for ‘insensitive’ and ‘unbelievably awful’ social media posts that showed her enjoying a million-dollar trip to Marlon Brando’s private island for her 40th birthday amid the pandemic.
Colin Hanks responded, ‘let them eat cake’ while Ronan Farrow joined fans and brands including the New York MoMA in creating memes to mock the reality star’s caption where she claimed to be feeling ‘humbled’.
But British rocker Peter Frampton advised her that sharing of images of a luxury trip with family and friends was ill-timed: ‘Are you that insensitive you don’t realize this is not what the majority of people during the worst covid spike yet want to hear? People are going to food banks not private islands.’
Kardashian received an overwhelming amount of backlash online after bragging about the lengths she went to make sure she could enjoy a face mask-free tropical vacation to The Brando in Tahiti’s Tetiaroa atoll.
The Brando is owned only has 35 villas which rent for up to $20,000 a night. A group of fewer than 30 people attended.

To date, more than one million people around the world have died from the coronavirus, with nearly 43 million cases accounted for since COVID-19 began spreading in January.
Kardashian’s own home state of California has tallied more than 17,000 deaths, and Los Angeles County is still in a top lockdown due to surging numbers.
The star admitted the entire family received ‘multiple health screens’ before embarking on the trip, which the New York Post reports was made possible by Kim chartering an 88-set jet which flew out of LA last week.
A source told the Page Six: ‘The group was limited to Kim’s closest family and friends. Everyone on the trip was repeatedly tested for COVID before they left in the middle of the night on a private Boeing 777.
‘Once on the island they had lavish dinner after dinner, spa treatments and hikes through the nature sanctuary. There was no expense spared. Everyone was banned from posting on social media by Kim to ensure her privacy.’
Followers were completely caught off guard by Kim’s long-winded post detailing the extravagant affair.
She wrote: ’40 and feeling so humbled and blessed.
‘There is not a single day that I take for granted, especially during these times when we are all reminded of the things that truly matter.
‘For my birthday this year, I couldn’t think of a better way to spend it than with some of the people who have helped shaped me into the woman I am today.
‘Before COVID, I don’t think any of us truly appreciated what a simple luxury it was to be able to travel and be together with family and friends in a safe environment.
‘After 2 weeks of multiple health screens and asking everyone to quarantine, I surprised my closest inner circle with a trip to a private island where we could pretend things were normal just for a brief moment in time.
‘We danced, rode bikes, swam near whales, kayaked, watched a movie on the beach and so much more. I realize that for most people, this is something that is so far out of reach right now, so in moments like these, I am humbly reminded of how privileged my life is. #thisis40.’
