A ruptured gas line has forced the closure of College Main Street in College Station and the evacuation of nearby buildings.
According to the College Station Fire Department (CSFD), the incident was reported shortly after 8 a.m. when a construction crew struck a four- to six-inch gas main. First responders immediately cordoned off the area around the intersection of College Main and Cherry Street.
Crews from Atmos Energy are on-site to conduct repairs, which officials estimate could take several hours as the work requires excavating the roadway.
No injuries have been reported. As a precaution, fire department personnel are monitoring air quality and remain on standby.
