Commuter chaos as all trains are stopped from entering or leaving Melbourne’s Flinders Street Station and heavily-armed police sweep carriages ‘for BOMBS’

Commuters in Melbourne are terrified that police who stormed carriages during peak hour were looking for ‘bombs’.
Heavily armed tactical officers marched through Flinders Street Station in the city’s CBD about 5pm on Monday.
All services were halted and passengers told to ‘seek alternate transportation’.
Passengers used Twitter to upload footage of officers with helmets and large guns marching through the busy station and sweeping carriages.

One user wrote: ‘Victoria Police Critical Incident Response Teams are doing a bomb sweep of trains. Stay safe.’
Train passenger Elizabeth DeLoria wrote on Twitter that she was ‘bomb squadded off a train’.
‘A bomb threat was made relating to a train. That’s all I know. I’m guessing, given that all the other trains got evacuated and we got THIS, that it was ours, but that’s guessing and we weren’t told anything,’ she wrote.
‘When they got on the train we weren’t told anything. While we waited stationary for 15 minutes beforehand, we weren’t told anything.
‘Genuinely thought I’d have to duck and cover or something when I first saw them but thankfully I’m safe and have managed to get home.’
Another witness said there was ‘chaos’ at the station, as all lines were suspended.
‘Heavily armed police seen leaving a platform at Flinders St Station,’ he wrote.
‘Chaos as all lines suspended. Passengers here are being told to seek alternate transportation.’

Victoria Police told Daily Mail Australia officers were ‘doing safety checks’.
‘Police have closed the area down as a safety precaution while they conduct their checks,’ a spokesman said.
Metro Trains warned passengers at about 5.20pm that all services were stopped from arriving or departing Flinders Street station ‘due to a police request’.
‘Please listen for announcements and check information display screens for travel information,’ the transport organisation wrote on Twitter.
The station has since been deemed ‘safe’ by police and trains are expected to resume.
