Commuters battled showers and flooded roads this morning after up to 1.5in of rain fell overnight, with more downpours forecast for today.
According to the Met Office, showers will continue across Britain this morning before clearing up by the afternoon, providing sunny spells for most.
However rain will fall on the northwest later on, combined with wind, while Scotland will experience heavy showers and gales in the evening.
There are currently nine flood warnings in place in England, meaning flooding is expected, in the likes of West Bay Harbour, the Essex coast, Dorset and Alfriston. There are a further 39 flood alerts, meaning flooding is possible.
Meteorologist Clare Nasir said: ‘First thing on Wednesday morning, showers from the word go.
‘The rain across the south east will clear and then further showers moving in from the west towards the east, but they’ll be more scattered through the day, more heavy with the risk of thunder.
‘But towards the far north, that’s where the wettest weather will be, a strong and driving wind here and that wet weather extends towards the northern isles yet again.’

Ms Nasir said the temperatures will remain mild for this time of year, reaching as high as 15C in London and the south west.
The Midlands will see highs of 13C, while the mercury drops to 12C in the north and Scotland.
Thursday will prove much drier in most southern, central and eastern areas with ‘some brightness’.
It will be a reprieve for commuters in London who face travel misery as 10,000 RMT union members shut down all Underground and Overground Tube services.
There will still be ‘patchy drizzle’ in western areas while heavier rain is forecast for the far northwest.
While it will still be mild tomorrow, it will be windy for most and there will be gales in areas of the north.
And the weather experts predict strong winds and rainfall across the north on Friday, however this weekend will be mostly dry across Britain while ‘remaining very mild.’
