Complaint overshadows return of Dani Alves to Pumas

Dani Alves returned to Mexico under the scrutiny of the Barcelona justice system. The right-back has one contract tournament left with the Pumas club, but it will be a period of time in which he will have to deal with the Catalan authorities for a sexual assault claim.

A woman denounced that she suffered intimate touching inside her clothes by the Brazilian at the Sutton nightclub in Barcelona in the early morning of December 31, at which time the player was on vacation in Barcelona.

A statistic taken up by the newspaper EL PAÍS indicates that the emergencies of the Hospital Clínic de Barcelona treated 51% more sexual assaults between January and October 2022 compared to last year. 17% of the attacks on women were committed in nightlife venues, the second most frequent place after the victims’ homes (44%).

Alves did not report to the university club for the Sky Cup, and landed in Mexico City last Sunday. His last activity was in the World Cup in Qatar, where the Brazilian team was eliminated in a penalty shootout by Croatia. On matchday 1 of the Clausura 2023, Pumas faces FC Juárez next Sunday at CU.
