Congress approves Haaland’s appointment as Home Secretary, who will become the first indigenous minister

The US Senate approved Rep. Deb Haaland as Secretary of the Interior in President Joe Biden’s administration, a historic move that made her the first Native American female minister.

51 members of the House voted in favor of her appointment to 40, with most Republicans voting against her after many described her views on public land use and fossil fuels as extremist.
