Querétaro, Qro. Almost two years after the Covid-19 pandemic, and the impact that its effects have had on economic units, there are companies that continue to paddle the ravages of the health contingency.
The Querétaro Business Center of the Employers’ Confederation of the Mexican Republic (Coparmex) reports that 50% of its companies are still in the process of economic recovery; in addition, they still face the accumulation of liabilities, explained the president of the local body, Jorge Camacho Ortega.
Faced with the pandemic, the year 2020 was the period in which company closures occurred, a situation that was not replicated in 2021; However, a good part of the firms start 2022 still in the phase to recover, he explained.
“We had no reports of company closings in e2021, we did in 2020. (Now) half are in recovery processes, of large debts, of starting to pay debts, of starting to grow, but fortunately there is no closure of companies ”, he explained.
The confederation has approximately 600 member companies that reside in the entity, in both commercial and industrial branches.
Due to the incidence of Covid-19 infections, he said, some companies have resumed work from home, in order to avoid internal outbreaks. Currently, companies maintain hybrid work schemes, that is, both remote activities and in production centers.
“I have observed that people who begin to have symptoms begin to work at home, that begins to happen, as it happens naturally, they have not stopped working, the work systems continue. This hybrid modality is being used in a responsible way among the same collaborators ”, he pointed out.
According to the businessman, he does not foresee that the new increases in infections will have a significant impact on companies as happened in 2020.
“I do not see that it will have a significant impact as it was in 2020. I think we have already learned to live with the pandemic and handle ourselves in this responsible way,” he mentioned.
Tax hike
Given the increases that various local taxes present this year, such is the case of the increase in the collection of the Payroll Tax (ISN) and the one replaced, the businessman said that nobody likes an increase in taxes, however, he considered that it could translate into better public services. “For the ISN the tax increases from 2 to 3%, which will imply 1,000 million pesos more in collection.”
“I don’t like that my taxes are increased, but in the case of replacement if I contribute my 3,000 pesos, I contribute to making a big bag of money and that comes back to me in great services, in better security systems (…) And in the case of the ISN, the companies contribute those additional 1,000 million pesos and it is returned to us in public lighting, in better roads, “he said.
After the disagreement that the company showed for the replacement charge, Governor Mauricio Kuri González announced that the payment of 1,631 pesos for the new plates will be extended from March to July 31, an amount that implies a 30 percent discount.
In this regard, the Coparmex leader stated that there will be companies that, according to their economic possibilities, will enroll their units progressively within this period.
