Corey Anderson is set to challenge for the Professional Fighters League (PFL) Light Heavyweight World Title in the co-main event of the PFL Champions Series in Dubai on Friday, October 3.
“It’s time to go out and get my new shiny belt,” Anderson stated. “My mindset is always the same: I just prepare to dominate. My mindset this whole camp: Just prepare to go in and dominate.”
The former Hononegah wrestling star, a veteran of the UFC and Bellator, will face 2024 PFL Light Heavyweight Tournament Champion Dovlet Yagshimuradov (25-7-1) in a highly anticipated rematch. Anderson (19-6) previously defeated Yagshimuradov via a third-round TKO during the 2021 Bellator World Grand Prix Quarterfinal, a tournament he ultimately won to claim the Bellator Light Heavyweight Championship.
This title bout marks Anderson’s return to his natural weight class after a successful heavyweight contest in July. He ended a nearly 16-month layoff with a dominant TKO victory over Denis Goltsov in his first fight since PFL’s acquisition of Bellator.
“Now it’s back down to light heavyweight, which is just fine with me,” Anderson said. “Confidence is key in this thing, and my confidence is soaring right now. I’m hungry.”
Having recently turned 36, Anderson acknowledges the finite nature of his professional mixed martial arts career and is determined to capitalize on this championship opportunity.
“He wanted this rematch, but now I’m hunting him. I want this,” he declared. “He was on a big winning streak the last time, and I shot him down. I’ll do it again. It’s time to finish this thing.”
