To celebrate its 20th anniversary, Tim Burton’s acclaimed stop-motion fantasy, The Corpse Bride, is being released in a 4K UHD remaster. Fans of the visually distinctive filmmaker will soon be able to own one of his most celebrated works in the highest available resolution.
The 2005 film features the voices of Johnny Depp as the timid groom Victor Van Dort and Helena Bonham Carter as the titular undead bride, who become entangled in an unorthodox love triangle with Victor’s living fiancée, Victoria Everglot, voiced by Emily Watson. While Burton had previously produced the stop-motion films The Nightmare Before Christmas (1993) and James and the Giant Peach (1996), The Corpse Bride marked his directorial debut in the animation style.
Upon its release, The Corpse Bride earned strong critical praise, currently holding an 84 percent rating on Rotten Tomatoes. However, it saw modest box office returns, grossing just over $118 million worldwide on a $40 million budget. In contrast, Burton’s less-praised 2001 remake of Planet of the Apes earned a formidable $362.2 million.
Over the past two decades, The Corpse Bride has cultivated a dedicated cult following, solidifying its place as a fan favorite within Burton’s filmography. In recognition of its legacy, Warner Bros. is issuing the remastered edition, which will be available in both standard and steelbook packaging on September 23. The 4K UHD release comes with an extensive collection of bonus materials, including:
- Digging Up the Past: The Minds Behind Corpse Bride
- ‘Til Death Do Us Art: A Corpse Bride Reflection
- Danny Elfman Interprets the Two Worlds
- Inside the Two Worlds of the Corpse Bride
- Making Puppets Tick
- The Animators: The Breath of Life
- The Corpse Bride Pre-Production Galleries
- Tim Burton: Dark vs. Light

While many of the special features have been previously released, two new featurettes are included: “Digging Up the Past: The Minds Behind Corpse Bride” and “‘Til Death Do Us Art: A Corpse Bride Reflection.” The anniversary celebration will also include a limited theatrical re-release of the film in select cinemas this October.
Meanwhile, Burton is developing his next project, a remake of the sci-fi cult classic Attack of the 50 Foot Woman, with Margot Robbie reportedly in talks for the lead role.
