Former US President Donald Trump was allowed to reside in the “Mar-a-Lago” resort, after the town’s attorney general ruled that his stay was legal, after his neighbors said it was illegal under the 1993 agreement.
CNN quoted sources as saying that Trump’s permanent residence in the “Mar-a-Lago” resort in Palm Beach, Florida, is under threat, due to doubts about its legality.
In a memo to the mayor of Palm Beach and the city council, town attorney John Randolph said that Trump, who lives in Mar-a-Lago, is not violating the agreement, because although his attorney has verbally said Trump will not live there, the actual legal document has no prohibition. Specific to Trump, live in the club. Because of this, if Trump were to be considered an employee of the resort, under the Palm Beach Zoning Act, he would be legally allowed to live there. “
Trump bought the resort in 1985, and later turned it into a members-only club in 1993, and in the agreement he signed, the resort was banned from being used as a primary residence, and any individual was prohibited from staying in the product for more than 21 days a year or seven days at a time.
Trump’s lawyer said at the time that Trump would not try to live in his club, describing him as a “club member” entitled to use his guest rooms, but nothing in the agreement would prevent him from staying there.
Trump’s neighbors have asked resort officials to inform him formally that he cannot make the club his permanent residence and have called on local officials to “avoid an embarrassing situation” after he leaves the White House.
